1920s Holloway Prison Indigo Blue Burlap Fabric Piece

Historical fabric made in the Holloway Prison in London, England
around the 1920s. Holloway opened in 1852 but did not become an all female prison until 1902. Holloway was the historical site of the Suffragette’s hunger strike and was closed in 2016.

Holloway Prisoner produced this indigo blue stenciled, hand stamped on burlap design of a ribbon. The beginning and end of the stamp can be seen because of the heavy ink at each end. Some small yellowish age spots. Approximate 17 ½” x 74”. Top edge before first stencil 3”-3 ½”. Bottom burlap selvage 1”. A rare find.

Buying Vintage is Sustainable

Thank you for considering used items. When you reuse, recycle and reinvent old things, you are preventing new ones from being made. When you wear vintage you not only prevent new ones from being made, you are creating a fashion look and style all of your own. You are also helping my small business and my family as well as the families of those who are always scouting out great finds for me. For that, we all THANK YOU! ❤️
