Mexican Magdalena Mine Opal & Onyx Desert Tortoise Pendant 14k Gold
Vintage custom made pendant that was made in Mexico. It is in the design of a desert tortoise. The tortoise is carved of black onyx. The shell has hand mosaic in Magdalena Mine fire opals. Each opal was chosen for it's fire and presence of pink matrix host stone. The belly plate is solid 14k yellow gold as is the large bail and straps.
This pendant is large measuring 2 7/8" long with the bail by 1 7/8" wide. It weighs 2.8 ounces, I do not know what the weight is of the gold alone as I would have to cut it and remove it to weight, thus ruining the piece. However, it has a nice chunk of gold for a breast plate. It is not thin and has an etched design. Interior of the bail is 5/8" by almost 1/2".
The gold is not hallmarked. I acid tested it to verify gold content and it is indeed 14k gold. No makers marks either though I know it was made in Mexico due to verification from the original owner.
Seller note: This was originally purchased and inventory for an event on One Kings Lane when I was a vendor there. Shortly after the company sold to Bed, Bath and Beyond and I no longer had interest in having my great finds shown there and I left the site. Compare at price was the OKL price.
