Early Navajo sterling silver cross necklace. The cross was tufa stone cast of ingot silver. It has a rough back surface that I love to see. The cross is set with 11 natural turquoise stones that have Zuni lapidary work. Stones are set with hand notched and filed sawtooth bezel. The stones have a charcoal gray and a sandy beige substance between the stones and the stone and bezels. This may be a natural “glue” of pinyon pine pitch and solid. It is advised to not clean or remove this. This is a rustic and early piece and should be left as found.
Pendant is 3 1/8” long. tarnished.
The chain is hand formed and hand soldered. It has links that are 12mm long and the chain is 23” long. non-locking clasp. Weight: 39.6 grams.
Is marked “N” on the back.
