This is a Patriotic metal awarded to a student who wrote an essay on American Patriotism. It was made by S.D. Childs and awarded by the Chicago Daily News. 1904. 

I tested it for silver and it tests that sterling silver is present. The design is accented by gold. I looked into this company to learn more about the metals that they used for their metals and tokens. 

I am still uncertain of the metal purity as it is not marked, but acid tests with silver. I also tested the bar pin and it tested the same. Comes is velvet box that is not original and not is great shape. The metal is in great condition as is the grosgrain ribbon. Metal is 1 3/8" in diameter. 3 1/2" long. Weight: 38.7 grams.
