Antique purple velvet purse. The velvet feels like it is indeed silk velvet and the color has mellowed to have a silver sheen. It is vibrant inside. This is a handmade bag. The silver kiss clasp likely had a little pull on the ring. It is lined partially with a cheesecloth sort of fabric. The bottom has a large covered button. 

Measures 8 3/4" by 7". The strap is 13 1/4" long by 1 1/4" wide. 

No smoke, mothballs are icky odors.
